Wrestler Info:
Real Name: Emberto Ortiz
Gimmick Name: "Unbelievable" Emberto Ortiz
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 170 Lbs
Age: 28
Hometown: San Diego, California
Alignment: Neutral
Wrestling Style: Technical, Striker
Entrance Theme Music: "Unbelievable" - EMF
Finishers:
The EDT (Estrangulación Del Triángulo) - Triangle Choke
(Usually used to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat, Ortiz can turn a lazy pin attempt into his version of the Triangle choke, often feigning an armbar to gain head and neck control with his powerful legs. His opponent then must decide whether he wants to pass out, or tap.)
Brazo-Bar - Hanging Armbar
(Even the best of fighters can get caught with this innovative armbar. After parrying an opponent's Clothesline, Power Punch, or even a sloppy grapple attempt, Ortiz latches onto the stray arm and locks in this armbar in a flash, wrapping his legs around the shoulder, and wrenching even further leverage than a normal grounded armbar can provide. The opponent must then either try to maintain his upright position through searing pain from the torque on his shoulder, or fall to the ground in an unenviable position: Grounded where Ortiz can do his real work. Either way the Brazo-Bar stays applied.)
Signature Moves:
Flying Knee
Shining Wizard
Knee Strikes from the Clinch (usually 4, followed by a forearm shot)
Springboard 2nd rope Clothesline, held into a Sleeper Hold w/Grapevine waistlock
Frequently Used Moves:
Hammerlock
Running Forearm
Wheel Kick
Rear Naked Choke
Leg Locks
Inseguri
Entrance Description:
Music hits ("You're Unbelievable!"), Ortiz makes his way to the ring seemingly oblivious of the ringside fans. If pyrotechnics are available, the only flash he uses is a smoke curtain that rolls softly down the ramp. If an American flag is hanging in the arena, he acknowledges it before throwing a quick left-left-right combo in the ring, then stretching each leg quickly on the second rope turnbuckle. Upon the start of the match, Ortiz makes a point to 'touch gloves' with his opponent in a show of respect, regardless of who he is facing.
Appearance: Olive skin, squinting brown eyes, and bald save for a small knot of hair cascading into a braid down his neck. Ortiz appears to have a balanced build between muscle and fat. He walks with purpose wherever he goes. He is not an imposing figure, but holds himself well.
Ring Attire: Black trunks, high black boots, white tape on his hands that extends up his forearm.
Bio: Emberto Ortiz was trained in Muy Tai martial arts under his father (Ramon), and started fighting when he was invited to a local amateur tournament. He did quite well, placing 2nd in his first ever tourny, but ended up losing the championship match by getting disqualified when he refused to release his choke hold on an already unconcious opponent.
Unwavered, Ortiz entered into a couple other tournaments at the amateur level, winning his last two by pure, standup striking power. Ortiz decided to turn pro, and immediatly sought out a trainer in his father. Ramon had already taught Emberto all he knew, so he sent him packing to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from South American legend Roberto "Gordo" Correia. There, Ortiz learned about the importance of conditioning, intelligence, patience, and precisision in the ring.
When he came back to America to compete in his first professional tournament, things appeared to be going well for Ortiz, striking his way to victory by knockout in 3 straight matches. However, midway through his semifinal match, something appeared to spook him. He barely finished the match with a judges split decision, but decided to forfiet his final match. When asked why, Ortiz gave a cryptic answer about not being 'ready.'
Refocusing his efforts, Ortiz overhauled his fighting style, rediscovering his knack for the ground game. After a year of instense self-searching and cross-training, Ortiz left his tournament life behind him, instead focusing on 1v1 matches. Ortiz tore through the ranks of the various lightweight classes in multiple fighting organizations, seemingly winning at will utilizing his fierce striking power to get a KO, or grounding his opponent to gain a submission victory.
After beating all comers, the powers that be decided it was Ortiz's turn at a Title Shot. Again, shockingly, Ortiz backed out of the fight with just a month before the bout, citing personal reasons. The rumor mill started churning, and soon, the underground was buzzing about Ortiz's mysterious past, training regimine, and performance enhancing drugs.
Ortiz left the lightweight professional fighting organizations with no answers, holding a singlular press conference, saying only "These warmup fights are over. It's time for my real test to begin."
